GARY MANN

Gary Mann is a Canadian from Toronto. His parents were the founders of the Temple Emanu-El synagogue in Toronto, which he grew up attending. After finishing high school, Mann immigrated to Israel to serve in its military in the Nachal Brigade according to the Ottawa Sun, and as of 2019 was still in its reserves as a medical officer. Mann graduated from medical school at the University of Louisville in 1979 and then completed training for surgery at the University of Toronto.

Mann then began working in health care in Canada. An online bio for Mann states, “Gary is a specialist in Emergency Medicine and practices at Lakeridge Health-Ajax and Pickering Hospital Dept of Emergency Medicine, where he has been Chief and Medical Director for the past 12 years. He is also the Emergency Physician Lead for the Central East LHIN and sits on the Provincial ED Physician LHIN Lead table, contributing to many aspects of planning and development of Provincial Emergency Medical related policies.” Mann also has a medical corporation in his name with Ontario addresses in Ajax and Thornhill.

Mann has served as a board member at the Temple Emanu-El synagogue.

Mann is the father of Ilan Mann and Leor Mann, both of whom spent time in the Israeli military in the same unit as him, and cited him along with other family members as inspiration for doing so. In 2014, Mann told the National Post, “They felt it was their moral obligation to serve the state of Israel and help defend it.” Both are included in this database.

This database was created by The Maple to document Canadians that have served in the Israeli military.
