ILAN MANN

Ilan Mann, 34-35, is a Canadian from Toronto. He completed a degree in fine arts at York University, and moved to Israel to join its military in early 2012, according to his LinkedIn. He spent three years living in Israel, 18 months of which he was in the military. In 2014, the Ottawa Sun reported that Mann “fought in the same army outfit as his dad, grandfather, grandmother and his younger brother (who is in the army now).” Mann’s father, Gary Mann, told the National Post, “They [his two sons] felt it was their moral obligation to serve the state of Israel and help defend it.”

The Ottawa Sun reported, “Mann blamed the western media for enabling Hamas to use civilians as human shields, to fire missiles from civilian areas, to oppress Palestinians on a daily basis and to stage fake death scenes. He said he has seen all of this ‘on the ground’ while a soldier.” At the time, Mann told the National Post that he knew of between 30 to 50 current and former Canadians in the Israeli military.

After returning to Canada, Mann completed a masters degree at Yale University’s School of Management, and went on to found Postalgia, a company that uses robots to create handwritten letters, in 2014. The company is based in Markham, Ont.

Mann’s father, Gary Mann, and a sibling, Leor Mann, were also in the Israeli military and are included in this database.

This database was created by The Maple to document Canadians that have served in the Israeli military.
