Jonathan Zerker describes himself on his LinkedIn page as a “Canadian Immigrant to Israel.”
His profile notes that he was an umpire for Baseball Ontario from 2006 to 2011 and that he served as a “combat soldier” in the Israeli military from November 2011 to May 2014, stating: “Served in the infantry for 2.5 years. Various accolades and awards received. This position required integrity, responsibility, diligence, perseverance, team work, work under stress, strategic thinking, and honesty.”
After finishing his service, Zerker went on to contribute to various programs dedicated to supporting and/or featuring other lone soldiers. For example, Zerker served as a board member for the The Lone Soldier Center In Memory Of Michael Levin, a “volunteer and delegation leader” for Reservists On Duty, and a “personal mentor, and community initiative leader” at Ach Gadol (Big Brother) for Lone Soldiers, where he acquired, “Two years of experience as personal mentor to ‘lone soldiers’ in IDF combat units. One year of experience as social entrepreneur within the non-profit. Responsible for establishment of tax deductible charity funds in Canada, immigration program for soldiers, and management of volunteers.”
