LEOR MANN

Leor Mann, 33-34, is a Canadian who was born and raised in Canada. Mann has written that they had a “Reform Jewish upbringing,” which included attending the URJ Camp George Reform Jewish summer camp in Seguin, Ont., including as a camper, staffer and member of the leadership team.

Mann completed elementary school at Leo Baeck, a Jewish day school in York, Ont., and attended a Reform synagogue in the area. They went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree at Western University in political science and Jewish studies. Mann also became a Canadian Jewish Political Affairs Committee fellow and a summer intern at the Jewish National Fund of Canada throughout this period.

In 2013, Mann began the process of immigrating to Israel to join its military, citing two major reasons for doing so: family members that had also been part of the military (including their grandfather and grandmother, father and a brother) and time spent at the Jewish summer camp. Mann wrote an article for the Reform Judaism website titled, “How Jewish Summer Camp Prepared Me for the Israeli Army” where they stated that the mission at the camp and in the Israeli military were similar. In 2014, Mann’s father, Gary Mann, told the National Post, “They [his two children] felt it was their moral obligation to serve the state of Israel and help defend it.”

Mann joined the military in 2014, and completed their service as a combat infantry sergeant and sharpshooter in the 932nd Battalion of the Nahal Infantry Brigade.

After finishing their service, Mann went on to work as a director of operations at Postalgia, a company that uses robots to create handwritten letters which was founded by their brother. Mann also volunteers as the co-chair of JNF Future at the Jewish National Fund of Canada.

Mann’s father, Gary Mann, and a brother, Ilan Mann, were also in the Israeli military and are included in this database.

This database was created by The Maple to document Canadians that have served in the Israeli military.
