Maya Bordan is a Canadian who immigrated to Israel.
A July 2014 article from CHCH quotes Bordan at the airport before a trip to Israel speaking about whether she is concerned about being in danger there given the ongoing war. The article states: “Maya Bordan admits it’s in the back of her head that something could go wrong. ‘(We’re) confident that our program has lots of security, and they’re going to protect us as well as they can.’”
A January 2018 post on the “Here Next Year” Facebook page featuring Bordan quotes her: “I’m Maya and I am currently serving as a Lochemet in Rochev Shamayim (Drone Unit) through Garin Tzabar.” It adds, “ Are you in seminary this year and considering IDF service? Learn what options exist for religious women in the IDF, speak with current female lone soldiers and meet other seminary students considering IDF service.”
Bordan is quoted in a feature article about lone soldiers in a 2018 issue of the Shaarei Shomayim synagogue in Toronto’s magazine speaking about her service: “From the time I was very young, I decided that I was going to make Aliyah and go into the army. Never did I think that would mean being in a combat unit! But here I am, currently serving in the tactical drone unit of the artillery division. When I finished my initial training, I was asked to do the officer course. All being well, I will graduate as an officer at the end of October. Being in the army and so far away is difficult for all of us, but as a family we are incredibly proud of what I’m doing.”
Bordan’s LinkedIn profile states that she is now a business development manager at Argentum Consultants in Israel.
