Michael Shabbat is a Canadian who was featured in a June 2024 Instagram post from Chayal el Chayal, which describes itself as “a home away from home for Lone Soldiers in the IDF.”

The post reads: “Meet Michael Shabbat, originally from Montreal Canada and came to Israel in 2016 where he drafted to Golani the following year. After October 7th, Michael joined the reserves in the Carmeli 221 unit as a סמ״ל. Before the war Michael was a Sofer with a teudah for all tefillin, mezuzot, Torah and any other sofer needs.
