REBECCA GARNER

Rebecca Garner, 33-34, is a Canadian from Quebec. She immigrated to Israel in 2010 and joined the Israeli military as a sniper in the Caracal Battalion. Garner has advertised her service on her CV, stating, “Before beginning university, I served two and a half years in the Caracal Battalion of the Israel Defense Forces, which at the time was the only infantry unit in the world with equal gender integration.” In 2013, Garner was awarded the President’s Award for Outstanding Soldiers by Israeli president Shimon Peres.

After finishing her service, Garner went on to complete a Bachelor of Science and a PhD in biology at Concordia University. She is now a postdoctoral scholar at the Innovative Genomics Institute at the University of California, Berkeley.
