Daniel Gofine is a Canadian from Toronto who attended Yeshivat Or Chaim, one of the Bnei Akiva private Jewish high schools in Toronto, for high school. He also was a frequent attendee of Camp Moshava, a Jewish summer camp in Ontario that writes that its “vision is to strengthen the religious Zionist community by educating and nurturing the campers and counselors entrusted to our care each summer to become role models both in Israel and the Diaspora.” He would eventually become head of the camp, according to his LinkedIn, and is featured in a 2016 post on its website telling campers, “I hope that this year, we, as a Machane, will discover new things about ourselves and continue to develop our connection to Israel and the Jewish people.”
Gofine immigrated to Israel after high school and attended a two-year yeshiva program. He then enlisted in the Israeli military. Gofine was featured alongside other lone soldiers in a 2018 issue of the Shaarei Shomayim synagogue in Toronto’s magazine where he stated: “I enlisted in the Givati Infantry Brigade of the IDF in March 2013. As an infantry soldier, I was responsible for protecting Israel’s borders and ensuring all of its citizens remained safe. Serving as a lone soldier certainly came with its challenges, but living with close friends from Toronto who had since made Aliyah made my experiences that much easier. I was also extremely appreciative of the support of the Toronto Jewish community, and particularly Shaarei Shomayim, during my service.”
After finishing his service, Gofine attended Yeshiva University in New York, then worked at a range of jobs, including at Bnei Akiva schools, The Jewish Federations of North America, and Sobeys. He also completed a masters degree at the Schulich School of Business at York University in Toronto. He now works as a consultant in Toronto for MNP, an accounting firm.
