MONI AIZIK

Moni Aizik is the founder of Commando Krav Maga, a martial arts school in Aurora, Ont.

Aizik’s bio on the website states: “Shortly after the Yom Kippur War in the 1970s, the Israeli military looked to improve upon its close quarter combat system. It was at this time that Moni Aizik, a member of one of Israel’s most elite Commando units, was assigned to evolve the military’s existing hand to hand combat system. Moni was sought after because of his extensive martial arts experience and battlefield experience. In his youth, Moni dominated the Judo and Jiu Jitsu arena winning 7 National titles. After turning 18, Moni served his country as a member of one of Israel’s most elite Commando units in the IDF. Having fought in the Yom Kippur War in 1973, Moni’s unit was decimated and he was one of the few that survived. During his service, Moni quickly learned what would and wouldn’t work in real life situations. In his new assignment after the war, Moni experimented with combative tactics and techniques under the most realistic conditions. Through intensive research and rigorous field testing, Moni extracted the most practical and effective moves that could be utilized even in the most stressful and unpredictable situations. It was at this time that Moni Aizik created Commando Krav Maga.”

Aizik eventually moved to Canada. The website states: “Moni first introduced Commando Krav Maga to Canada in the 1980s at the Jewish Community Center in Toronto. Since then, instructors have been certified internationally and seminars are regularly available in major cities around the world by the instructors and Moni himself.”

Another post on the website claims that Aizik’s combat programs “were imparted to the civilian sector, police, army, and special forces worldwide.” It adds: “Aizik’s expertise has been showcased on prominent television shows, including Human Weapon, History Channel, Weaponology, Discovery Channel, Celebrity Fit Club, and Fight Network.
