Seth Frieberg is a Canadian who attended Robbins Hebrew Academy, Associated Hebrew Schools and TanenbaumCHAT, private Jewish schools in Toronto, and then completed an undergraduate degree from Western University’s Ivey Business School in 2013. Upon finishing university, Frieberg joined the Israeli military, serving as a corporal from July 2013 to August 2014, according to his LinkedIn profile. Describing his service, he writes, “Machine gunner in the Paratroopers Brigade and participated in two major operations.”
Frieberg is mentioned in multiple issues of TanenbaumCHAT’s magazine.
He is featured in the fall/winter 2015 issue in an article titled, “Doing My Part: Joining The IDF,” where he is described as “a prime example of TanenbaumCHAT alumni showing their commitment to Israel.” The article features an excerpt of a speech he gave at the United Jewish Appeal 2015 campaign launch: “I am 24 years old and have grown up as a very active member of the Toronto Jewish community. For as long as I can remember, my family has been connected to and involved with UJA. While still in a stroller, I participated in my first UJA walkathon. […] My parents, Jack and Sandra, have been active volunteers and long-time supporters of UJA. They worked hard to ensure that my brothers Adam ’04 and Mathew ’06, my sister Orly ’09 and I all received a strong Jewish education […] My Gap Year after TanenbaumCHAT was spent learning at Yeshiva in Israel, followed by the University of Western Ontario, Ivey School of Business. At Western, like many TanenbaumCHAT alumni, I participated in Hillel’s Israel on Campus activities.
After graduating from Ivey in 2013, I decided to join the Israel Defense Forces. I believe that everyone needs to do something to support Israel. I was drafted on July 1, 2013 and spent the past 14 months serving as a paratrooper. This summer, I was actively involved in Operation Brothers Keeper, searching for the missing teenagers, and in Operation Protective Edge in Gaza. I was honoured to serve as a paratrooper. My unit and the entire Israeli army were motivated to defend the land of Israel, our homeland, the Israeli people, and the safety and freedom of Jews around the world. Tragically, too many who served were killed or wounded in the conflict.”
He is also mentioned in the spring 2020 issue, with the publication writing, “During Shavua Israel (Israel Week) in February 2020, Seth Frieberg ’08 spoke to students about his experiences as a Lone Soldier in the Israel Defense Forces. Bringing into focus his personal connection to Israel, he noted that ‘this was basically 14 months where every day I was doing something that, for me, was a meaningful and substantial way to give back to Israel.’”
Frieberg returned to Canada after his service finished and began working at Deloitte as an accountant, according to his LinkedIn. He has since worked at a variety of companies in Toronto, currently as the Chief Operating Officer of the WTF Group, which states that it is “one of the leading developers of historic property in downtown Toronto.” Frieberg is also currently listed as a “mentor” on the Ivey Business School website.
Frieberg’s father, Jack Frieberg, was described as a co-chair of the Jewish Foundation on the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto’s website in May 2024. He is also listed as being on the board of directors for the latter organization for 2024-2025.
