Daniel Kollek is a doctor who has been an active member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) since 1986. His profile on the CPSO website states that he graduated from the University of Ottawa’s medical school in 1986 and has medical licenses in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Israel. A 2009 article at the Canadian Medical Association Journal states that he was a high school student in Israel.
A bio for Kollek on the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians website states: “Dr. Daniel Kollek is an award-winning emergency physician, an Associate Clinical Professor at McMaster University, Honorary Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary’s University of London, Chair of the CAEP Disaster Committee and Director of the Centre for Excellence in Emergency Preparedness. He also has served as Emergency Department Chief and Program Director in both Hamilton and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. His research papers and presentations have spanned many disaster-related topics. Prior to his career in medicine, he was a combat officer in the Israeli Defence Forces, and he now dabbles in improvisational theatre.”
Kollek’s service in the Israeli military is also mentioned in a bio at the website for the International Federation for Emergency Medicine.
Kollek is mentioned in an October 2023 National Post article about Canadian doctors that travelled to Israel to join ambulance crews. The article states: “Daniel Kollek, an emergency doctor at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, Ont., outside Hamilton, said people have been extraordinarily welcoming. ‘We arrived in Ashdod and initially it wasn’t clear where we were going to sleep at night, and this other medic who came in, she overheard the conversation and said “Here are my house keys, I’m doing the night shift, go sleep,”’ Kollek said. ‘I spoke to a crew that went and resuscitated a Hamas prisoner of war. Imagine the conflict, emotionally, they had. I asked the guy, and he said it doesn’t matter, I have a person in front of me who needs medical care and we’re going to resuscitate. And they did.’”
